Meet “Hippeastrum Petiolatum” – the one plant in my own garden that connects me to my mother’s world. While I paint memories of her fragrant white lilies from afar, this vibrant orange beauty grows just outside my studio door, creating a bridge between the garden I remember and the one I’m building here.
This mixed media piece represents “Summer” in what I’m calling my Four Seasons garden series – each painting paired with a different movement from Vivaldi’s beloved masterpiece. The warm oranges dance across collaged textures, while that deep red pot grounds the composition, much like how discovering this kindred bloom grounds me to the garden traditions I grew up with.
Sometimes the most meaningful art comes from unexpected discoveries: finding echoes of what we love in the world we’re creating for ourselves. And when accompanied by Vivaldi’s “Summer,” this piece celebrates the joy of new growth and present moments. 🎼
