Hippeastrum fragrantissimum is a deeply personal mixed media work explores themes of memory, displacement, and the enduring connection between place and identity. Named after the fragrant white lilies that flourished in my mother’s garden throughout my childhood, this piece serves as both botanical study and emotional landscape.
Artistic Process & Materials: The composition integrates multiple layers of meaning through diverse mixed media techniques. Hand-lettered Spanish poetry by Alfonsina Storni flows across one bloom, while sheet music from Vivaldi’s “Spring” adorns two others, creating a dialogue between literary and musical interpretations of renewal. The fourth flower showcases delicate textures achieved through gelli plate printing, demonstrating the technical versatility that defines my mixed media practice.
Cultural & Personal Significance: Since relocating from my homeland, I find myself increasingly drawn to recreating the botanical memories that shaped my artistic sensibility. The Hippeastrum fragrantissimum represents more than mere subject matter—it embodies the universal experience of longing and the artist’s ability to bridge physical distance through creative expression.
This work belongs to a series of four mixed media paintings celebrating the flowers of my mother’s garden, each exploring different aspects of memory, migration, and the healing power of artistic creation.
